About the Program

Our Sea Rangers program is designed for anyone, of all backgrounds who are eager to make a difference in marine conservation. Participants will engage in a variety of activities that blend education, adventure, and practical conservation efforts. Sea Rangers work together to protect our oceans, seas, and estuaries in Australia and all over the world.

By becoming a Sea Ranger, you will help conserve all marine species, working on projects from coral reefs to dolphin and whale migrations and monitoring, while getting involved in projects that restore our ecosystems and wildlife habitats.

Sea Rangers have unique opportunities to make a real contribution to ocean conservation, take diving, snorkeling, and kayaking tours, while being immersed in Sea Ranger adventures, gaining skills and knowledge to expand their horizons.

Frequently asked questions

  • Experience in Environmental Science, Marine Conservation, Wildlife Veterinary or similar is required to join Sea Rangers. If you don’t have qualifications or experience you can join our volunteer membership and start building your skills to work up to becoming a Sea Ranger.

  • Yes, Sea Rangers get together for dives throughout Australia and overseas. Some conservation projects will also require diving, If you do not have your scuba dive certificate we can help you find the right dive centre with a discounted price.

  • Although paid work is not guaranteed, you will have opportunities depending on skills, qualifications and performance to become educators in paid work positions leading our Junior Rangers programs.

    You will also be supported in job readiness and shown volunteer opportunities with our partners, improving your resume and work experience.

  • Yes, Sea Rangers shirts are available for purchase $60 each. Although uniforms are not compulsory they are encouraged, Wearing uniforms enhances Sea Rangers pride, unity, and community spirit. When rangers put on their uniforms they become 'super heroes', setting out to protect nature and wildlife.

  • Sea Rangers membership is for 6 months or for 12 months.

    Cost includes your dives and tours seasonally (one per season / four per year) snorkelling and kayaking full day adventures including lunch.

  • Oceana Wildlife is involved in projects at the Great Barrier Reef, Minjerribah Stradbroke Island, Byron Bay Hope Spot, Northern Rivers NSW, Costa Rica, and the Maldives.

    All Sea Rangers will have an opportunity to get involved in projects in QLD and NNSW, Involvement in other project locations is dependent on performance, skills, qualifications and initiative.
