Indigenous Sea Rangers Program
Empowering Indigenous Youth for Marine Conservation
The Indigenous Sea Rangers Program is a scholarship-based initiative designed to provide Indigenous youth with valuable work experience in marine and wildlife conservation, both in Australia and abroad. Our program focuses on workplace readiness, resume building, and hands-on experience in various ocean conservation projects.
Program Highlights
Workplace Readiness: We equip our sea rangers with the skills necessary to thrive in professional environments, including resume building, interview preparation, and teamwork.
Marine Conservation Projects: Participants engage in projects that protect marine habitats, such as the efforts on Minjerribah Stradbroke Island to conserve Moreton Bay.
Certifications: Over the past two years, our sea rangers have earned their Cert II & III in Marine Habitat Conservation and Restoration, and their Open Water Dive Certificates through local VET providers.
Global Experience: Opportunities to work on international projects, broadening their conservation impact and cultural understanding.
Networking and Friendship: Being part of our program you will join a dynamic team, make new friends, and create lifelong connections.
Success Stories
Our sea rangers are making a significant impact. Brianna, one of our Indigenous Sea rangers, recently won Indigenous Student of the Year for her outstanding achievements and commitment to marine conservation. Eli and Ke have found work in the Wildlife and Ocean conservation industry.
Our Sea Rangers visit to AIMS: Australian Institute of Marine Science.
Manuwuri (pictured left) is passionate about establishing a legacy and a pathway for the next generation. Her vision, determination, and wisdom give Traditional Owners of all ages a genuine voice and the ability to influence the future of the invaluable Great Barrier Reef. We appreciate the AIMS team for giving us an exclusive behind the scenes tour and look forward to our next visit.
Importance of Caring for Sea Country
Caring for sea country is vital for preserving the natural environment and maintaining the cultural heritage of Indigenous communities. Connecting with nature allows our mob to strengthen their bond with the land and its beautiful wildlife. Through this program, participants gain essential skills in adventure survival and wildlife conservation, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for the natural world.
Scholarships for Junior Wildlife Rangers
We also offer scholarships for children aged 3-17 to join our Junior Wildlife & Eagle Rangers programs. These scholarships provide an excellent opportunity for young kids to learn about wildlife conservation and develop a passion for protecting the environment. Please contact us to apply for a scholarship.
