Snake Rescue

The Junior Wildlife Rangers found a carpet python the unfortunately had been hit by a car on its head and tail. The Rangers took it to the Byron bay wildlife hospital. sadly the snake died, but with no pain, the good thing is that if the Rangers hadn’t found it, this poor snake would have been left in the rain and in a lot of pain. In the end it’s always good to help the animals you can even if they might not make it. You do what you can safely.

How you can help

Snakes are cold blooded, so they need to keep themselves warm to keep active. The road is very hot and usually gets a lot of sun so for snakes its a prime place to soak some rays, but they don’t know that cars drive on roads and often get hit. You can help by being vigilant, if you see an injured snake on the side of the road or on the road, call your local wildlife hospital and make sure no cars run over it, always ask a grown up for help.

Osprey Rescue

The Junior Wildlife Rangers found a osprey nest, cool! Then they found out that it appeared the one of the baby’s had a fishing hook stuck to it’s leg and it looked like the hook got caught on the nest making the baby stuck, and it seemed like it was trying to get out by jumping and flapping it wings. So the Junior Wildlife Rangers called the Tweed Council and they called a wildlife rescue service and got a permit to fly a drone up to get a closer look. It turned out that the baby was just practising flying but one of the parents had a hook on it leg. the parent can easily fly and we are waiting for updates.

How you can help

Make sure to dispose of fishing tackle correctly. Often places have special bins where you can put fishing lines and hooks.
